Riyadh: The 6th Internal Audit Forum, organized by the General Court of Audit (GCA) and represented by the Saudi Center for Financial and Performance Auditing (SCFPA), officially commenced on Sunday morning at GCA's headquarters in Riyadh. The event aligns with the International Internal Audit Awareness Month and attracted wide participation from across the internal audit community. The forum was inaugurated in the presence of President of the General Court of Audit Dr. Hussam Alangari, along with a group of officials, dignitaries, and over 550 leaders and specialists in internal audit from government entities.
According to Saudi Press Agency, a key highlight of the forum was the launch of the 'Internal Assistant'-an AI-powered tool designed to deliver immediate, accurate responses in the field of internal auditing. This tool is built in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the Unified Regulations for Internal Audit Units in Government Entities and Public Institutions. Tailored for the public sector, this tool aims to support internal auditors in enhancing efficiency and performance.
Supervisor General of Internal Audit at the General Court of Audit Dr. Seita Almandeel emphasized the strategic importance of internal auditors in advancing institutional sustainability amid rapid changes in the business environment. She highlighted their evolving role as trusted advisors and key partners in decision-making, adding value through insight and guidance. Dr. Almandeel also underlined the importance of ongoing education and professional development and reiterated GCA's commitment to strengthening the capabilities of public sector internal auditors. Through initiatives like the 'Knowledge Community for Internal Auditors,' launched during a previous forum edition, GCA has facilitated numerous workshops, development sessions, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
In his keynote address, President and CEO of the Institute of Internal Auditors Anthony J. Pugliese discussed the growing significance of integrating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics in internal auditing. These tools, he noted, enable risk anticipation, proactive decision-making, and more impactful advisory services. Pugliese highlighted a global trend toward expanding the advisory role of internal auditors, noting that leaders in the field aim to allocate up to 40 percent of their audit plans to consulting activities within the next decade.
The forum also features two panel discussions focused on internal audit strategies under accrual accounting and IT general regulations. Additionally, the event includes an accompanying exhibition and interactive workshops.
The General Court of Audit's goal in hosting this edition of the forum is to empower internal audit functions within government entities, particularly in light of the transition to accrual accounting. The forum seeks to enhance professional knowledge, address current challenges, and explore opportunities for development in the field of internal auditing.
