624k smart electricity meters installed countrywide-Report

Work is under way by the Iraqi side to implement Jordanian-Iraqi power interconnection project, progress report on executive program for Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) during first half of 2023 said. The report added that the Iraqi side is building the power grid line with a 150km-length in Iraqi territory to Rutba substation in Iraq’s Governorate of Alanbar, in conjunction with implementation of the Jordanian transmission infrastructure. According to the report, 624, 000 smart meters were rolled out nationwide, or 25.5% of the total number of 2,445,634 subscribers on the power distribution networks. On program for installing solar water heater systems in the domestic sector, Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) signed cooperation agreements with three banks and 19 civil society associations so far for this purpose. Regarding the ‘key’ challenges and ‘unrealized’ priorities, the report said delay in completing economic feasibility studies for the renewable hydrogen and ammonia production project in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) was due to failure of Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) to complete the study according to the date set for this purpose under the framework agreement. The report added that FFI sent a letter notifying Jordanian government of its need for an extra period to conclude the study. On late implementation of electrical interconnection projects with Saudi Arabia and Egypt, this delay was driven by pending Saudi decision to set a date to sign three agreements, and a similar Egyptian move to schedule meetings to follow up procedures for carrying out the project. As for Jordan’s green economy sector, work is currently underway to implement a project to promote green activities in Jordan’s industrial facilities as the key achievement in this field during the first half of 2023, the report pointed out.
