An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Thursday the islands of Vanuatu, located in the South Pacific Ocean. The quake occurred 36 km south of the capital, Port Vila, at a depth of 98.1 km, the US Geological Survey said. No casualties or material losses were reported so far. Vanuatu is an archipelago of volcanic origin that lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of frequent seismic activity. Source: Qatar News Agency
