Doha: President of Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) Ahmad Abdulla Al Muslemani met here today with president of Romania’s communication regulatory authority (ANCOM) Valeriu Stefan Zgonea.

Over 36,000 Contracts Signed in Employment Program Tashgheel

Amman: The National Employment Program (Tashgheel) has facilitated the conclusion of 36,394 employment contracts, with 2,381 private sector establishments registered in the program, said Muhammad Zyoud, Media Spokesman for the Ministry of Labor.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Zyoud highlighted that 2,513 of Tashgheel’s registrants, including 1,235 females, are beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund.

He emphasized the program’s alignment with the government’s directive to empower Jordanian youth aged between 18-40 years, hailing from diverse educational backgrounds and regions across the Kingdom. The overarching goal is to catalyze job creation in the private sector, thereby curbing unemployment across various sectors and governorates.

Zyoud elucidated that participating employers are mandated to enter into a 12-month contract with selected candidates. Under the program, the Ministry subsidizes the worker’s wage by JD130 for a duration of 6 months, in addition to covering social security
contributions amounting to JD10. Moreover, an additional JD10 is allocated as a transportation allowance for the worker.

Qatari Aircraft Carrying Aid for Palestinian Brothers Arrives in Egypt’s El Arish

El Arish, A Qatar Armed Forces’ aircraft carrying 26 tons of assistance arrived Wednesday in El Arish city of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt.

The aid bound for Gaza include relief essentials provided by Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity, bringing the total number of aircraft to 93 carrying assistance.

The aid came within the framework of the State of Qatar’s unwavering support for the Palestinian brothers and its full support for them during the challenging humanitarian conditions currently facing them.

Jordan To Host Cooperative Ministerial Conference for Asia-Pacific Countries

Amman: Minister of Agriculture and Jordanian Cooperative Corporation Chairman, Khaled Hanifat, announced Wednesday the commencement of the eleventh Cooperative Ministerial Conference for Asia-Pacific countries on April 28 in the Dead Sea region.

Hanifat stated in a press conference that preparations are complete for this international event, organized by the ministry in collaboration with the International Cooperative Alliance.

The conference aims to bolster partnerships between governments and cooperatives, contributing to sustainable development across economic, social, cultural, and environmental spheres.

The two-day conference serves as a significant platform for ministers and cooperative sector representatives to exchange experiences and discuss cooperative work strategies. The conference seeks to promote cooperative culture and identity in societies, highlighting the sector’s economic and social contributions.

The conference is expected to attract wide participation from ministers and cooperative le
aders representing various countries, demonstrating Jordan’s pivotal role in fostering international cooperation despite regional conflicts.

The conference aims to formulate sustainable policies and regulatory environments conducive to cooperative growth, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals. With broad participation from over 50 countries, including ministers and cooperative leaders, the conference underscores Jordan’s regional prominence and commitment to cooperative development.

Balu Iyer, Regional Director of the International Cooperative Alliance in Asia and the Pacific, highlighted in a recorded speech during the press conference that the choice of Jordan to host the eleventh Cooperative Ministerial Conference for Asia and the Pacific countries reflects its status as one of the most stable and secure countries in the region. He praised Jordan’s efforts in organizing the conference and emphasized its role in promoting stability and development.

Iyer emphasized Jordan’s significant progress a
cross various fields and its unwavering security and stability amidst regional challenges. He underscored that the conference will facilitate the formation of partnerships for sustainable development in North African and Asia-Pacific countries, fostering collaboration between governments and the cooperative sector.

QatarDebate Participates in ECOSOC Youth Forum in NY

Doha: QatarDebate is participating in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York (NY), from 16-18 April 2024.

An annual initiative by the President of ECOSOC, the forum serves as a platform for economic dialogue engaging young leaders from around the world together with policymakers and experts from political and apolitical backgrounds to discuss solutions to the challenges affecting youth well-being. It also serves as a unique space for young people to share their vision and actions as well as provide an opportunity to advance youth solutions.

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani took part in QatarDebate’s dialogue session on natural gas being key to a transition towards green energy, during which Her Excellency praised QatarDebate’s role in enriching dialogue and empowering the youth, highlighted the significance of the sessions topic, and noted the State of Qatar’
s efforts in confronting climate change.

Her Excellency added that the youth chose peace as the session’s main focus, given that the world has become a small global village with open horizons.

In turn, Director of Programs at QatarDebate Abdulrahman Al Subaie stressed the importance of this dialogue session in revitalizing dialogue and yielding implementable and innovative ideas, highlighting the importance of consolidating cognitive awareness among young people to push them towards innovation and excellence.

Al Subaie added that without reaching a common understanding and finding precise and well-thought solutions, it would not be possible to hold an enriched and open dialogue nor empower minds.

The session aimed to highlight the vital role of natural gas in serving as a bridge to transition from reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, underscore the role of the youth in intergovernmental consultations regarding the Summit of The Future, facilitate a discussion to address global challenges

Princess Basma Visits Patients in Amman Hospitals

Amman: Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal, Chairwoman of the Supreme Committee of the Goodwill Campaign at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), visited patients undergoing recovery at Al-Khalidi and Abdul Hadi Hospitals and Al-Shami Eye Center.

Princess Basma met with patients from across the Kingdom who had undergone various surgeries this year, facilitated by consultant doctors from the campaign’s volunteer medical team as part of the Lamset Shefaa program. These efforts are part of the ongoing partnership between JOHUD and the private medical sector.

At Al-Khalidi and Abdul Hadi Hospitals, Princess Basma visited 12 patients who had undergone surgeries in orthopedic, brain and neurosurgery, reconstructive and plastic surgery, general surgery, and ear, nose, and throat surgery. At Al-Shami Eye Center, she met with 5 out of 19 patients who had received operations in Amman and Aqaba, including cataract removals, lens implants, and corneal cone procedures.

Princess Basma comm
ended the campaign’s collaboration with the private medical sector, emphasizing the provision of advanced medical services to underprivileged families across the Kingdom. She praised the dedicated efforts of medical personnel in ensuring patients’ well-being and recovery.

In the presence of the campaign’s Supreme Committee members, Princess Basma highlighted the significance of these partnerships in fostering solidarity within Jordanian society. She underscored the importance of translating humanitarian goals into action, particularly in the realm of healthcare.

Princess Basma reaffirmed the campaign’s commitment to serving patients from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the continued support of the private medical sector. She lauded hospitals for their efforts in facilitating operations and providing comfort to patients and their families.

Dr. Karim Al-Khalidi, Director of Al-Khalidi Hospital, and Dr. Samer Abdel Hadi, Director of Abdul Hadi Hospital, reiterated their institutions’ dedication to supporting
the campaign and its humanitarian mission.

Dr. Rashid Nazzal, Director of Al-Shami Center in Aqaba, expressed pride in the center’s partnership with the campaign and its ongoing commitment to providing free medical services to those in need.

The patients were selected following free medical screenings conducted by the campaign across the Kingdom. Their conditions necessitated further medical attention and surgical interventions to alleviate pain and improve their health.

Qatar Participates in WHO’s Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response Meeting

Doha: Qatar participated in the fourth meeting of the Standing Committee on Health Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response at the World Health Organization, which commenced its proceedings in Geneva today.

The meeting, which will last for two days, is conducted in a hybrid format combining in-person attendance with online participation.

The delegation of the State of Qatar is led by HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, who is also the Chair of the WHO Executive Board, utilizing remote communication technologies.

The meeting discusses several important topics, including updated information on ongoing public health emergencies of international concern. Additionally, the meeting discusses enhancing the WHO Health Emergencies Programme and its oversight, reviewing updated information on health emergency preparedness, response, resilience, including health threats requiring additional preparedness, as well as updated information on the response to ongoing major health emergencies, t
he status of implementation of recommendations by the Independent Oversight and Advisory Committee for the WHO Health Emergencies Programme, updated information from the Secretariat of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board, and the unified procedures for extraordinary meetings of the Standing Committee.

It is worth noting that the Standing Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Response is tasked with several key functions, notably reviewing the WHO Health Emergencies Programme and providing guidance and recommendations to the WHO Executive Board as necessary.

QAIA Serves 597,134 Passengers in March 2024

Amman: Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has served 597,134 passengers (PAX) in March, marking a decline of 19.2% compared to the figures from the previous year, according to Airport International Group.

During the same period, QAIA recorded 5,476 aircraft movements (ACM) and processed 6,361 tons of cargo, representing decreases of 11.4% and an increase of 13.5%, respectively, from March 2023.

Year-to-date statistics reveal a 4.6% decrease in PAX at QAIA, totaling 1,968,993 PAX compared to the equivalent period in 2023. Additionally, QAIA reported 16,639 ACM and handled 19,339 tons of cargo, indicating a decline of 5.5% in ACM and a surge of 30.3% in cargo handled, respectively, compared to the same period the previous year.

Nicolas Deviller, CEO of Airport International Group, commented on the findings, stating, “Our overall results were notably influenced by March coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, traditionally associated with reduced travel activity, alongside ongoing developments in Gaza
. Nevertheless, we remain committed to collaborating closely with our teams and partners to ensure QAIA regains its momentum and continues to provide passengers with an efficient, comfortable, and welcoming experience.”

Minister of Environment Meets Greek Counterpart

Athens, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie has met with HE Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis on the sidelines of participation in the ‘Our Ocean’ conference, which concluded in the Greek capital today.

The meeting discussed several common topics, primarily ways to achieve sustainable development between the two countries, environmental preservation and climate change issues.

Ministry Reassures Safety of Jordanians in UAE Amid Weather Conditions

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has assured that no injuries have been reported among Jordanian citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates due to the ongoing weather conditions.

Sufian Qudah, spokesperson for the Ministry, conveyed to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that continuous monitoring is being conducted through the Jordanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Jordanian Consulate in Dubai to ensure the well-being of Jordanian nationals across different regions of the Emirates.

Qudah urged Jordanians in the UAE to promptly reach out to the embassy, consulate, or the Ministry headquarters in Amman whenever necessary or in need of assistance.
