Geneva: The 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its related meetings commenced in Geneva, featuring the participation of a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia led by the Speaker of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh. This event has gathered heads of parliaments from across the globe, hundreds of parliamentarians, and numerous representatives from international organizations.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the main theme for the 151st session of the assembly is 'Upholding Humanitarian Standards and Supporting Humanitarian Action in Times of Crisis.' The four standing committees of the IPU engaged in discussions on their respective agendas, as well as deliberations on the central theme of the session.
On the sidelines of the general assembly, Al Al-Sheikh held meetings with Faisal Al-Fayez, President of the Jordanian Senate, Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the Moroccan House of Councillors, and Sardar Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
Additionally, Secretary-General of the Saudi Shura Council, Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi, participated in the meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments. Several members of the Shura Council attended meetings of the IPU's four standing committees: the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, and the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.
Al Al-Sheikh also chaired the coordination meeting of the Arab Group at the level of parliament speakers, held on the sidelines of the assembly.
