The king salman bin abdulaziz royal reserve: The Development Authority has highlighted the beauty and distinctive characteristics of Zilla spinosa, a perennial wild species that adorns valleys and contributes to enriching the floral and ecological diversity within the reserve.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority explained that Zilla spinosa is a perennial shrub belonging to the mustard family. It is widely distributed across valley habitats and has been recorded in most areas of the reserve as part of ongoing efforts to document and monitor local wildlife and native vegetation.
The shrub grows to approximately 60 centimeters in height and is distinguished by its dark purple flowers. Its branches terminate in thorns, a feature that reflects its distinctive adaptation to the local environment.
This awareness initiative forms part of the authority's efforts to introduce the public to native wild plants, promote environmental awareness of the importance of protecting biodiversity, and conserve natural ecosystems to ensure their long-term sustainability.
