Wrth Highlights Palm Frond Weaving Craft during US President’s Visit

General

Riyadh: The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth) is participating in the "Media Oasis" event held at the Green Halls in Riyadh, now in its second consecutive day, in conjunction with the visit of US President Donald J. Trump to Saudi Arabia.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Wrth's participation aligns with its ongoing efforts to highlight and promote Saudi traditional arts both locally and internationally. The institute is showcasing the palm frond weaving craft (khous), a traditional art form shared across cultures, notable for its rich patterns and colors, and unified by its handmade products' aesthetic and practical value.

The institute is presenting a live demonstration of khous weaving, with the involvement of its students and several artisans. The demonstration illustrates the stages of crafting handmade items from palm fronds.

Additionally, a silent documentary is being screened, detailing the steps of the weaving process and its cultural significance in Saudi heritage.

The experience is further enriched by bilingual educational content in Arabic and English, alongside a dedicated store offering handcrafted pieces designed and produced by Wrth's students. Visitors can take home authentic artworks that reflect the depth of Saudi cultural heritage.
