The Ministry of Water and Irrigation hosted an online workshop on Thursday to discuss a project to dig 20 basalt aquifer wells with a capacity of 10 million cubic meters. This crucial project was initiated in response to the shortage of water in all regions of the Kingdom due to the influx of Syrian refugees and the impact of climate change, said Acting Secretary-General of the Water Authority Rami Abu Rawaq. He noted that the project is set to begin towards the end of this year and technical studies are being conducted with the help of Germany’s KfW Development Bank. Rawaq also mentioned that 4 wells were drilled at significant depths, adding that the workshop discussed linking these new wells with the water supply system.
