Singapore’s newly appointed prime minister Lawrence Wong was sworn in on Wednesday, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong, who has led the country for 20 years.
Wong took the oath of office in a televised ceremony at the national palace, in presence of Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Wong will retain his current position as finance minister and leads a country led for a couple of decades by Loong, the 72-year-old son of Lee Kuan Yew, the founder of modern Singapore, who remained in office until his death in 2015.
