Wild Plant Onobrychis Ptolemaica Thrives in Northern Borders Region

Jeddah: A wild plant, Onobrychis ptolemaica, is currently flourishing across several open sites in the Northern Borders Region during the spring season, coinciding with improved climatic conditions that have contributed to the renewal and growth of vegetation cover.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the plant is considered a perennial wild species, distinguished by its robust structure and attractively colored blossoms that add a vibrant dimension to the desert environment. It also supports biodiversity, serving as an important food source for certain insects and microorganisms.

Onobrychis ptolemaica occurs in a variety of open habitats, where sandy soils and mild weather conditions favor its noticeable growth and spread during this time of year.

The spread of such plants reflects the region's ecological balance. It underscores the importance of preserving vegetation cover and limiting practices that may negatively impact its sustainability, in support of environmental protection efforts and the development of natural resources in the Kingdom.
