Riyadh: The skies over the Kingdom and several other countries will witness an astronomical event on the evening of Friday, June 6, 2025, the first day of Eid Al-Adha. This event will feature the conjunction of the waxing gibbous Moon with the star Spica (Alpha Virginis), the brightest star in the Virgo constellation and the fifteenth brightest star in the night sky.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Space and Astronomy Club noted this phenomenon can be observed with the naked eye after nightfall, without the need for astronomical tools, as long as observers are in open areas away from light pollution.
The Moon and Spica will appear in very close proximity, separated by less than one degree, or approximately 21.21 arcminutes. This close alignment will be particularly appealing to observers and astrophotographers.
