Voting abroad for 2nd round of Turkish elections on May 20

Voting abroad for the second round of the Turkish elections would begin on May 20th, said Turkiye’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

According to a tweet by the Foreign Ministry, the voting process would involve 151 Turkish missions in 73 countries with 167 ballot boxes installed for the elections.

It revealed that voting at border checkpoints would be held on May 20-28.

The Presidential race between incumbent President and Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) runner Recep Tayyip Erdogan and leader of the main opposition in Turkiye Kemal Kilicdaroglu had been so close, requiring a second round to be held on May 28.

The supreme election committee in Turkiye revealed that the turnout within the country had reached 88.92 percent, while 52.69 percent voted from abroad.
