Riyadh: The Visual Arts Commission (VAC) has announced the launch of the Art Bridges 2025-2026 initiative, a series of four distinguished programs aimed at enhancing professional development and promoting international cultural exchange for Saudi and Saudi-based visual artists, cultural practitioners, and creative professionals. These programs will be implemented across four international destinations, reflecting the commission's dedication to fostering global connectivity and cross-cultural dialogue.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the first program, a collaboration with the British Council, is scheduled to take place in Scotland from September 22 to 27, 2025. Additional programs will follow in Japan from October 31 to November 7, the Republic of Korea from November 19 to 27, and Spain from March 2 to 9, 2026. Applications for the Japan program will close on August 21, while those for Korea and Spain will remain open until August 31.
VAC CEO Dina Amin highlighted the significance of these programs, stating, "These professional programs offer Saudi and Saudi-based cultural practitioners a unique opportunity to share their creative voices with the world, reflecting the depth and diversity of Saudi Arabia's artistic landscape." Each program is specifically designed to suit the cultural and creative context of its destination, involving engagement with thought-leaders and visits to leading cultural centers, museums, galleries, and artists' studios.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions, as well as dialogues with prominent figures from the local art scenes, enhancing meaningful exchange and strengthening their professional expertise. Thematic focuses for the programs include exploring the intersection of art and environment in Japan, examining identity through art and community in Korea, and highlighting heritage and collectivism in Spain.
Applicants must be over 21 years old, have at least five years of professional experience, and possess a strong portfolio demonstrating their contributions to the cultural sector. Proficiency in English and full commitment to the program schedule are mandatory, with detailed criteria available in the application form.
The Art Bridges initiative underscores the Visual Arts Commission's mission to expand Saudi Arabia's cultural presence on the global stage, cultivate sustainable creative ecosystems, and forge enduring international partnerships.
