(UPDATE) Bassil welcomes U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Egypt Ambassador

Caretaker Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, welcomed on Wednesday U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Anne Patterson, who did not make any statement following the meeting.

The pair reportedly discussed an array of current affairs, on top which terrorism, Syrian displacement, oil resources, and U.S. policy in the region.

During the meeting, Bassil called for opening direct airlines between Lebanon and the U.S.

Separately, Bassil met with Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Nazih al-Najjari, over latest developments.

“We talked about the visit Minister Bassil will be paying to Egypt within the next few days to participate in the ministerial meeting for the Arab League and European Union,” the Ambassador said in the wake of the meeting.

“Minister Bassil also informed me that he intends to visit Pope Tawadros. This is an important visit and we will work on its success,” he added.

Moreover, Bassil met with Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva.
