Jeddah: Students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Prince Mugrin (UPM) achieved a notable scientific milestone by publishing a high-level research paper in Expert Systems with Applications, a leading international journal in computer science ranked as a high-impact journal by ISI Web of Science with an impact factor of 7.5. According to Saudi Press Agency, the achievement is the result of two years of continuous research carried out by students Mohamed Nasif and Abdulrahman Hassan, under the supervision of AI Department head Dr. Ahmed Elhayek, in collaboration with researchers from Prince Sultan University. The success reflects the strong academic support and continuous encouragement that students in the department receive to pursue advanced and unconventional research fields. The two students tackled one of the most complex challenges in computer vision by developing an advanced algorithm based on the latest deep learning techniques, aiming to achieve high accuracy i n shadow removal without relying on masks.
