Khartoum: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Khartoum, today announced the launch of the Relief, Employment and Vital Infrastructure for the Vulnerable in Emergencies initiative. This program is designed to address immediate needs and foster long-term resilience in the region.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the 12-month initiative focuses on enhancing local capabilities essential for recovery efforts. A significant component of the program is the provision of safe water to approximately 500,000 people through the operation of 20 solar-powered irrigation water systems. Additionally, the initiative will address safety concerns by clearing debris and leftover explosives from 20 identified areas. Small farmers will also receive support through the distribution of 10 agricultural processing units.
Furthermore, the program aims to engage around 9,000 individuals in community-led recovery planning. It will also provide training for 90 local officials and community leaders, equipping them with the skills necessary to support ongoing aid and recovery activities.
