UK Secretary of State for Science Visits KFSHRC Heart Centre of Excellence

Riyadh: King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh welcomed United Kingdom Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology, Peter Kyle, and his accompanying delegation. During the visit, Kyle toured the Heart Centre of Excellence to observe the hospital’s medical innovations and advanced technologies in cardiac care, reflecting its leadership in specialized healthcare.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the British official met with Executive Director of the Heart Centre of Excellence Dr. Hani Al-Sergani and his deputy, Professor Feras Khaliel. He toured the hospital’s cardiac facilities, met with the medical team that performed the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant, and reviewed the latest technologies in minimally invasive organ transplantation, which help reduce surgical complications and accelerate patient recovery.

The visit follows the global recognition of the KFSHRC Heart Centre’s achievements, particularly after a Saudi medical team, led by Professor Khaliel, successfully performed the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant. This milestone further strengthens the Kingdom’s leadership in healthcare and highlights KFSHRC’s ability to pioneer medical practices that enhance treatment outcomes and patient experience.

KFSHRC was ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and 15th globally in the list of the world’s top 250 academic medical centers for the second consecutive year and was recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, according to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings. Additionally, it was included in the world’s best smart hospitals list for 2025 by Newsweek magazine.
