Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his call on Friday for countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to recognize it. This came in a joint press conference held with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, during his visit to Belgrade. Erdogan said: "Nine countries have recognized the State of Palestine since October 7, 2023, and I renew our call to countries that have not yet done so to recognize." In recent months, the number of countries that officially recognize the State of Palestine has risen to 149 out of 193 countries in the United Nations General Assembly, after Armenia, Slovenia, Spain, Norway, and Ireland from Europe, and Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and the Bahamas from the Caribbean region recognized it.
