Washington: President Donald Trump has announced that a civil nuclear agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia hinges upon the kingdom's decision to join the Abraham Accords. Trump emphasized that the deal would not involve the enrichment of uranium.
According to TRTworld.com, the United States and Saudi Arabia have reached an understanding regarding civil nuclear power. This agreement allows Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium and construct nuclear reactors utilizing US technology, deviating from the snap UN inspections previously demanded by Washington from Iran.
In a message posted on Thursday on Truth Social, Trump stated, "The Civil Nuclear Deal (There will be no enrichment of material!)... pertains only to non-military use such as the ones that Iran and UAE (and others) already have, will be approved, but is totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords," highlighting the importance of normalizing ties with Israel.
Trump further clarified, "The United States is not opposed to Civil (Non-Enriched) Nuclear Facilities." However, Saudi Arabia has maintained its position of not signing the Abraham Accords unless there is an agreement on a roadmap to Palestinian statehood.
The Abraham Accords, brokered by Washington during Trump's first term, aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and the Arab world. To date, the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco have signed on, while Sudan's accession remains pending.
