TGA President: Rapid Growth of Public Transport Reflects the Kingdom’s Transformation

Riyadh: President of the Transport General Authority (TGA) Eng. Fawaz Alsahli said that addressing traffic congestion in Riyadh comes at a time when the Kingdom's public transport sector is experiencing rapid growth. He made the remarks during the seminar "Managing Congestion in Riyadh: Towards Sustainable Urban Solutions," organized by the Local Administration Center at the Basair Think Tanks and Studies Complex of Prince Sultan University.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Alsahli said the growth reflects the transformation taking place in urban mobility patterns across Saudi Arabia. He noted that public transport usage exceeded 420 million passengers in 2025, representing a 129% increase compared with 2019.

He added that increasing reliance on public transport and improving integration among its various modes are among the most effective ways to reduce traffic congestion.

Alsahli also highlighted the joint efforts of government entities, academic institutions, and the private sector to develop sustainable solutions based on research and practical application. He noted that the authority is working with cities across the Kingdom to expand public transport services, which now cover 20 cities and governorates.
