Riyadh: The Transport General Authority (TGA) revealed in its annual statistics today that the number of seafarers rose from 2,376 to 2,948 in 2025, reflecting the authority's efforts to localize and expand the maritime transport sector in the Kingdom.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this growth represents a 24% increase compared to 2024, adding 572 seafarers across various roles, including electronic technicians, captains, deck officers, first officers, engineering officers, chief engineers, radio operators in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, sailors, ship security officers, experienced engine navigators, and experienced deck navigators.
The TGA added that an integrated training infrastructure has been established, with six specialized maritime educational institutions accredited and more than 3,200 advanced training courses delivered to enhance seafarers' skills. The authority also expanded training and educational programs to qualify additional maritime talent.
