TGA: 2025 Witnessed Qualitative Transformations in Kingdom’s Transport Sector

Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia's transport sector witnessed significant qualitative transformations in 2025, driven by the regulatory and developmental efforts of the Transport General Authority (TGA). These efforts aimed to enhance sector efficiency, improve service quality, and promote sustainability, in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the TGA reported notable growth in passenger transport. Ride-hailing applications recorded approximately 142 million trips, while trains served more than 155 million passengers. Intra-city buses transported over 97 million passengers, and inter-city buses served more than three million passengers.

In the field of smart mobility, the TGA launched autonomous passenger vehicles in Riyadh in mid-2025. Operating on dedicated routes serving vital areas, the pilot program-implemented as part of an integrated partnership with government entities-has received strong public approval and includes plans for future expansion.

The logistics sector also recorded substantial growth, with deliveries exceeding 409 million and parcels surpassing 230 million. The TGA continued to support the sector by activating strategic partnerships and facilitating the establishment of regional headquarters for global logistics companies in Riyadh, reinforcing the Kingdom's position as a regional logistics hub.

To promote environmental sustainability, a dedicated electric bus route was launched in Makkah. In the maritime sector, Jazan-Farasan ferries transported more than 492,000 passengers and approximately 143,000 vehicles, ensuring vital connectivity for Farasan Island. The TGA also played a key role in the Kingdom's election to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In digital transformation, the TGA issued more than six million standardized car rental contracts, 1.2 million vehicle operating cards, and 814,000 driver cards. On the oversight front, the authority conducted more than four million inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and enhance safety standards across all transport sectors.
