Jazan:The National Energy Services Company, Tarshid, in collaboration with Jazan University, has successfully completed an energy efficiency retrofit project aimed at reducing energy consumption across 80 university buildings and facilities.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the initiative is part of Tarshid's endeavor to enhance energy efficiency by implementing international standards and sustainability best practices. The project scope included comprehensive site surveys and technical assessments that identified significant opportunities for improving energy performance.
The retrofit project involved 15 key energy efficiency measures, including upgrades to control systems, air-conditioning, and lighting systems. Specific actions included replacing chiller control units, optimizing air handling unit schedules, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to boost operational performance.
Lighting systems were upgraded by replacing conventional lighting with energy-efficient LED solutions, along with the installation of occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors. These measures aim to reduce the university's annual electricity consumption from approximately 181 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) to 135 million kWh, marking a 25% reduction.
The energy savings are expected to conserve more than 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent annually, delivering an environmental impact similar to planting over 430,000 seedlings each year. Established in 2017, Tarshid plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainability and supporting the energy sector in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the strategic objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
