Madinah: The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and Taibah University in Madinah have launched the solar panels installation project in the university's buildings and facilities. Through this initiative, Tarshid aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption by producing solar energy for self-consumption across all buildings and facilities in line with the best practices and highest global standards.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Tarshid Board Member and CEO Waled Al-Ghreri stated that the company conducted field surveys and technical studies on the buildings and facilities within the project scope. The studies highlighted the importance of improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption through the installation of solar panels and related systems on the rooftops of buildings and facilities. This adds an important standard for enhancing energy efficiency, emphasizing the generation of electricity for self-consumption and supplying these buildings with clean, renewable energy. The total system capacity across all buildings is 3,590 kW, equivalent to an annual savings of 6 million kWh.
The project's targeted annual electricity consumption is approximately 18 million kWh, which is expected to reduce to around 12 million kWh annually after the installation of the solar panels and their systems. The expected savings from the project are equivalent to saving more than 9,000 barrels of oil equivalent and preventing around 3,000 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions-an environmental impact comparable to planting more than 55,000 seedlings annually.
Tarshid said it is committed to supporting the Kingdom's strategic sustainability objectives under Saudi Vision 2030, which aim to achieve substantial energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.
