Riyadh: The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) received three awards at the Asian Water Awards 2025, recognizing its outstanding projects and innovative initiatives that strengthen the Kingdom's position as a global leader in sustainable water technologies.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority was honored with the Engineering Excellence of the Year award for its innovative forward osmosis integrated with solar collectors. This hybrid system combines solar energy and forward osmosis technology efficiently without complex electrical storage.
SWA also received the Innovation of the Year award in renewable water energy for its 55-megawatt electricity generation project, which powers a desalination plant producing one million cubic meters of water per day. The project exemplifies SWA's commitment to harnessing clean energy for major desalination initiatives, enhancing production efficiency while reducing the carbon footprint.
Additionally, the authority won the Net Zero Carbon Project of the Year award this year for the Shuaiba Production System (phase five), one of the largest reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plants in the region.
