Riyadh: The Supreme Court has called on all Muslims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to sight the Ramadan crescent on Friday evening, Sha'ban 29, 1446 AH, in the Umm al-Qura calendar, corresponding to February 28, 2025. The announcement is a customary practice as the sighting of the crescent moon marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, a significant period of fasting and reflection for Muslims worldwide.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the Supreme Court has requested that individuals who are able to see the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or through binoculars, report their sighting to the nearest court. This is to ensure that testimonies are recorded accurately. Alternatively, individuals can contact the nearest center, which will assist them in reaching the appropriate court to validate the sighting.
The sighting of the crescent moon is an essential aspect of the Islamic lunar calendar, and the Supreme Court's call serves as a reminder for Muslims to participate in this communal effort. The court's directive underscores the importance of a unified start to Ramadan, which is observed with fasting from dawn until sunset, increased prayer, and charitable activities.
