Arar: Sunspots were observed on the sun's surface yesterday in the sky of Arar, in Northern Borders Region, minutes before sunset.
According to Saudi Press Agency, sunspots are areas on the sun's surface with high magnetic activity. This activity hinders the process of convection, causing these areas to appear darker when viewed.
Member of the Astronomy and Space Club Adnan Al-Ramdoun stated that this phenomenon is part of an 11-year solar cycle. The number of spots varies between cycles, and they can disappear entirely during some periods, indicating that the spots observed yesterday are often associated with solar storms that may affect the planet.
