Slovenian President Borut Pahor underlined the importance of Egypt’s regional role, including its vital contribution to the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), along with being a key partner to Slovenia in the Middle East and North Africa.
In exclusive statements to MENA Sunday, the Slovenian president referred to his meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during his visit to Egypt in 2016, saying that in cooperation with President Sisi, the two sides succeeded in giving a new momentum to propelling bilateral ties.
According to the Slovenian president, political ties have been intensified since then, as new prospects of cooperation were floated.
Pahor highlighted Egyptian-Slovenian cooperation in the trade domain, stressing the need for attaching prior attention to fostering future economic ties.
The main aim behind Slovenia’s green qualities, creative talent and smart solutions motto is to render the country a pioneering force in the field of creation, with especial focus on “sustainability and green technologies “, that goes in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, featuring distinguished attention to sustainability, knowledge and innovation, that would create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation, he said.
Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana is the headquarter for the first UNESCO-sponsored International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), said the Slovenian president, adding that artificial intelligence is a promising domain for future cooperation with Egypt, besides other fields including, logistics, electronics, electronic engineering, renewable energy, health and tourism.
Pahor shed light on Egypt and Slovenia’s support to the UN’s central role in maintaining international peace and security, along with respecting international law.
He also referred to the unique historical ties binding Egypt and Slovenia.
Meantime, the Slovenian president lauded Egypt’s hosting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNCCC) COP27, in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, dubbing the event as ” decisive ” to climate action.
He also reiterated his country’s commitment to doubling its financing pledges in response to climate adaptions, in line with COP26 climate pledges.
