President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed Saturday Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhi to render the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship, set to be hosted by Egypt in January, successful.
President Sisi pointed out that the tournament would be the largest global sports event since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with Sobhi and Advisor to the President of the Republic for Financial Affairs Major General Mohamed Amin to follow up the final preparations for hosting the championship.
Sobhi reviewed various aspects of the ongoing preparations at the level of the Supreme Committee concerned with supervising the championship’s organization.
The minister pointed out that 108 matches would be held in four different halls in three governorates, in addition to providing 10 other gyms to host the national teams’ training.
About 1,100 volunteers will participate in organizing the tournament, he added.
The meeting also witnessed the presentation of the construction and financing steps for the Egyptian Sports Fund, which is the first investment fund to support sports in Egypt.
In this regard, the president called for governing the fund to sustain its financial returns in favour of supporting Olympic champions and discovering the talents.
