Self-Driving Delivery Service Pilot Launched in Riyadh

Riyadh:The Transport General Authority (TGA) has initiated Riyadh's first pilot project for delivery operations utilizing self-driving vehicles. This initiative is part of the authority's strategy to incorporate modern technologies and foster innovative solutions in the transport and logistics sectors.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the self-driving delivery vehicles operate within a designated geographic zone, beginning in Riyadh's Al-Falah district. The delivery process is triggered by an electronically placed order, which is then autonomously delivered to the recipient by the vehicle.

These vehicles are equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving technology. They feature 360-degree sensor coverage and are monitored in real-time from a remote operations center. The vehicles have the capability to stop immediately in case of an emergency.

The TGA's objective is to reduce delivery costs by up to 85% using an electric fleet. This fleet not only produces zero carbon emissions during operation but also contributes to reducing street noise.
