Tokyo, The operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says the second round of the treated and diluted water discharge into the sea has been completed as planned.
Tokyo Electric Power Company announced that the second round ended shortly on Monday.
The utility says in the latest round, it released 7,810 tons of treated water from 10 tanks after diluting it with large quantities of seawater, according to Japan's (NHK WORLD).
The second round of the water release started on October 5.
The first round was completed on September 11, despite opposition from the local fishing industry in China, which has imposed a ban over seafood imports from Japan.
A powerful 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit Japan in March 11, unleashing massive tsunami waves that crashed into Japan's eastern coast, resulting in widespread damage and destruction of infrastructure, oil stations and nuclear plants, including Fukushima and causing a nuclear leakage described as the worst since the Chernobyl reactor explosion disaster in 1986.
