Second Edition of “Simulation of Shura Council Sessions” Wraps Up

The second edition of the “Simulation of the Shura Council Sessions” concluded at the Council’s headquarters in the presence of HE Minister of Sports and Youth Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti and a number of Their Excellencies members of the Council.

The event aimed to introduce young people to the important role of the Shura Council and the importance of positive participation in the selection of its members, practically train the youth to practice the Council’s legislation and oversight tasks and competencies and get acquainted with the procedural aspects related to the election of the Council’s speaker and deputies and the formation of committees.

The event is part of the activities that the Ministry of Sports and Youth is implementing to embody the Qatar National Vision 2030 and in line with the Ministry’s strategy and vision that seeks to achieve active and responsible youth with a sense of patriotism and a community practicing sports.

Also, the simulation event aimed to raise the capabilities and skills of young people in the State of Qatar and prepare a second line of leaders who are aware of what awaits them in the future through full and effective participation in line with Qatar National Youth Policy aiming for the full and effective participation of youth.

The “Simulation of the Shura Council Sessions” witnessed the holding of two sessions. The first session witnessed the election of the speaker, deputy speaker, committee chairpersons, and their deputies, and the oath was taken. In the second session, the youth discussed a topic closely related to their concerns and aspirations, centered around the “full and effective participation of youth”, highlighting the importance of volunteer work and its value, in addition to the importance of civil and political participation.

The Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Sports and Youth opened the door for registration for young people to participate in this event, where 117 male and female applicants applied for it, 45 of whom met the conditions and were selected. Training workshops were organized for these young people over two weeks. The participants received training within three axes, including the internal law of the Qatari Shura Council, raising speech and speaking skills, and workshops on persuasion and debate skills.
