Second Edition of Global Innovation Competition for Mining Sector Announced

Riyadh:The National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), along with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, has announced the launch of the second edition of the 'Future Minerals Pioneers' Global Innovation Competition. This competition is part of the activities connected to the Future Minerals Forum.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the competition aims to attract innovative solutions to address key challenges in the mining sector, enhance the efficiency and sustainability of mining operations, and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies. It seeks to empower both national and international talent to contribute to developing practical and scalable solutions that bolster the sector's competitiveness and future readiness.

This edition of the competition introduces three main challenges with seven innovation tracks. The challenges focus on Maximizing Mineral Recovery Rates, Circular and Low-Emission Mining, and the Transition Toward Autonomous and Smart Mining.

The competition invites specialists, researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students from Saudi Arabia and around the world to participate. Interested individuals can register through the competition's online platform. The process involves several stages, starting with a virtual bootcamp, followed by the selection of final teams, an in-person bootcamp, and concludes with the announcement of winners at the closing ceremony during the sixth edition of the Future Minerals Forum in January 2027.

This initiative is supported by key partners in the mining sector, including Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) and the Saudi Mining Services Company (ESNAD). It is part of efforts to develop the mining innovation ecosystem and connect innovators with real-world challenges. This aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to maximize the value of the Kingdom's mineral resources, attract quality investments, and enhance Saudi Arabia's global standing in the mining and minerals industry.

The first edition of the competition saw significant international participation, with 1,812 applicants from 371 teams across 57 countries. From these, 356 participants from 70 teams in 32 countries advanced to the in-person bootcamp, underscoring the competition's global reach and its role in fostering innovative solutions for the future of the mining sector.
