Riyadh: The Saudi Water Authority has announced the adoption of new regulations permitting real estate developers to implement water and sewage network connections for properties during their development phases. This initiative is designed to reduce repeated excavations for each connection, enhance street safety, minimize duplication of work, and lower costs for beneficiaries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the regulation stipulates that the cost of connecting water services to a beneficiary is set at SAR1,000 per meter. This cost is applicable provided the developer completes the connection within property boundaries during the development stages, in early coordination with the service provider.
The authority clarified that these regulations are part of the approved guidelines for delivering water and sewage services to accredited urban plans and development projects. The new measures are expected to significantly reduce excavation works in residential neighborhoods, improve the urban landscape, and decrease operational costs.
Moreover, the regulation aims to maximize returns on infrastructure investments by limiting recurring operational interventions. It seeks to increase spending efficiency, extend asset lifespans, and enhance the quality of life. This step is aligned with the authority's development trajectory since the commencement of its operations in May 2024 and supports efforts to establish integrated regulatory frameworks that elevate the efficiency of the water sector, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
