Riyadh: The Saudi Highway Code has set basic standards for the transportation of hazardous materials on roads, aiming to improve safety levels and enhance the experience of road users. The standards are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life and achieve the highest levels of safety and efficiency in the road network.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority said that the Saudi Highway Code defines a set of standards for transporting hazardous materials, which include training drivers to safely handle such materials to avoid accidents, using special containers, and displaying warning signs. The code also requires special licenses for drivers and mandates that they have clean criminal records.
The code serves as a comprehensive technical reference for all entities responsible for roads in the Kingdom, including ministries, city development authorities, municipal and provincial councils, and others, with the aim of enabling them to access the necessary information for planning, designing, implementing, operating, and maintaining all types of roads in the Kingdom.
