Saudi Geological Survey CEO Chairs Meeting of World’s Geological Leaders


Riyadh: Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) CEO Eng. Abdullah Al-Shamrani chaired a meeting today with the heads of the world’s geological surveys, where discussions focused on exchanging knowledge and expertise, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting technological innovation in the field of geosciences.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the first GEOMIN Symposium: Redefining Mineral Exploration, Potential, and Impact, organized by SGS and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and held under the patronage of Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef.

The meeting reviewed the significance of the event, which brought together participants from around the globe, and explored best practices to enhance operational efficiency and address technical challenges.

Al-Shamrani commended the meeting’s role in fostering collaboration among geological survey agencies, emphasizing the importance of sharing insights on developments and challenges in
mineral exploration and geophysics. He also highlighted the participation of leaders and representatives from major international geological organizations, underscoring the value of global cooperation and the adoption of emerging geophysical technologies, including artificial intelligence applications in mineral exploration.

Participants discussed the role of advanced technologies, such as drones and satellite-borne sensors, in improving data collection and exploration workflows. Key technical obstacles facing geological surveys were also examined, along with opportunities for joint collaboration to achieve mutual benefits.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing the integration of environmental considerations into exploration practices to minimize ecological impacts. It also outlined strategies to strengthen future cooperation and advance technological development in the fields of mineral resources and geophysics.
