Saudi Foreing Minister Participates in High-Level Meeting on Combating Synthetic Drugs

Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated Monday in a high-level meeting of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

 

The Saudi foreign minister delivered a speech in which he stated that trafficking of synthetic drugs negatively impacts security and development, leaving serious consequences for societies and difficult challenges for the international community that require intensive cooperation between governments to combat the global drug scourge.

 

He also affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to the ministerial declaration launched by the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, which seeks to accelerate and strengthen an effective collective global response.

 

The minister of foreign affairs pointed out that the Kingdom continues to strengthen international cooperation and multilateral frameworks to address the threats posed by the drug trade and its cross-border distribution.

 

The Saudi minister said that the Kingdom is making efforts to exchange information with more than 30 countries to confront the global drug scourge and curb its growing threat, noting that information exchange and continuous monitoring are adopted simultaneously with addressing obstacles that lead to the global spread of illicit drug use.
