Baku: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) issued a press release today announcing that it joins the Kingdom's delegation for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, from November 11 to 22. SEC, a leader in sustainability and climate change mitigation, participates in this international conference to underscore its commitment to advancing its strategic objectives in these critical areas. According to Saudi Press Agency, SEC has designed a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy based on some fundamental pillars, including initiatives and targets for emission reduction and climate change mitigation, as well as its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. SEC has launched several projects under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy to improve energy efficiency, expand combined-cycle operations, and transition to a clean energy mix. These initiatives include displacing li quid fuels in the fuel mix by 2030, advancing the power grid toward smart technologies, integrating renewable energy projects in the grid, implementing smart metering, and investing in research and development initiatives, such as carbon capture and storage.
