Saudi Communications, Space and Technology Commission Organizes a Virtual Dialogue Session on Metaverse in Cooperation with ITU

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) in partnership with the International Teleommunication Union (ITU), has organized a virtual dialogue discussion on how to benefit from metaverse in smart cities.

The discussion occurred on the sidelines of the Science,Technology and Innovation Forum organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

A number of UN agency stakeholders from different countries of the world took part in the event.

Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, and Seizo Onoe, Director of Communications Measuring Office at the ITU, co-opened the session, considered one of the strategic international partnership factors to empower the advanced technologies and achieve the objectives of sustainable development.

Addressing the opening session, Al-Wasel cast light on the Saudi Arabian Vision 2030’s endeavour and strategic orientation, led by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister aiming to empower modern technologies, including the metaverse, among others.

Al-Wasel recalled that the Kingdom had hosted a number of incentive events to adopt technology and enhanced ways towards future life and smart cities, confirming the strength of the Kingdom’s partnership with ITU towards unifying the visions and standards of using metaverse technology and accelerating the achievement of the objectives of sustainable development.

Whilst addressing the session, Eng. Maaz bin Sulaiman Al-Rumaih, Director of the International Negotiation Department at the CST, highlighted the progress witnessed by the Kingdom in the field of digital transformation and smart cities as well as the cooperation with the international organizations in advanced technology, making it an ideal regional and international example in the field of empowering modern technology.

Several decision-makers, representatives of regional and international organizations, private sector and research community experts also participated in the discussion.
