Riyadh: Ministry of Defense Spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Malki announced that the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with the United States Central Command, carried out precision strikes against militia targets in Iraq. These militias were identified as being linked to recent attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil facilities.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the strikes were conducted following the interception and destruction of several UAVs targeting oil facilities in the Eastern and Riyadh regions on July 27 and 28, 2026. These UAVs were reportedly launched from Iraqi territory by Iran-backed militias. The Kingdom emphasized its right to defend itself and its assets under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and stated it would choose the time and place of its response.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its position against escalation but affirmed its commitment to respond decisively to any acts of aggression.
