Saudi Arabia to Host FAO’s Near East Forestry and Range Commission Session

Jeddah: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 27th session of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission in Jeddah from September 29 to October 1. The event is jointly coordinated by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the session will focus on advanced methods and integrated solutions to unleash the full potential of forests and rangelands, aiming to address the impacts of climate change, enhance associated food systems, and support sustainable rural development.

Key discussion topics include integrating the forestry sector with agroforestry, developing frameworks for restoring degraded lands and ecosystems, providing solutions for drought and desertification, and highlighting the green cities initiative and the use of AI for climate-resilient land systems.

Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley said that hosting the session reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to environmental sustainability, particularly as it holds the current presidency of the UNCCD COP16 and drives the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative.
