Saudi Arabia Successfully Tests Using Iron Slag in Cement Production

General

Riyadh: The National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) has completed a research experiment on using iron slag as an additive in Ordinary Portland cement (OPC), highlighting MWAN's commitment to sustainable practices and innovation. The five-month experiment, a collaboration with Riyadh Cement, involved using 1,273.88 tons of iron slag. The results showed that adding just 1% to 2% of iron slag improved the cement's properties.

According to Saudi Press Agency, this initiative confirms the feasibility of using industrial by-products to reduce waste and lower carbon emissions. MWAN emphasized that this experiment is a model for regulatory and industrial collaboration and is the first of many steps aimed at turning waste into sustainable economic resources, boosting investment, and supporting the Kingdom's sustainability goals.
