New york: Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its firm support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as an essential provider of education, healthcare, and humanitarian relief to Palestinian refugees, emphasizing that the agency's role cannot be replaced.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this declaration was made in a speech by the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, while he chaired the General Assembly meeting of the UNRWA Pledging Conference. He highlighted Saudi Arabia's position as one of UNRWA's largest supporters and reiterated the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to the agency and the Palestinian people.
Dr. Alwasil warned that targeting UNRWA is part of broader attempts to resolve the Palestinian refugee issue outside the framework of international law. He called for urgent efforts to bridge the agency's funding gap to ensure the continuation of its services. Moreover, he mentioned that Saudi Arabia has allocated financial assistance for developmental and humanitarian projects through UNRWA, enhancing the agency's capability to address the increasing needs of Palestinian refugees.
