Saudi Arabia Marks Green Initiative Day with Ambitious Sustainability Goals

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia celebrated Saudi Green Initiative Day by highlighting its environmental accomplishments, as stated by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley. Alfadley, who heads the initiative's ministerial committee, stressed the nation's dedication to environmental conservation and enhancing living standards, which align with Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative's targets. These targets include rehabilitating 40 million hectares of land, safeguarding 30% of the country's terrestrial and aquatic spaces, and cutting carbon emissions by 287 million tons annually.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Alfadley, in a statement commemorating the initiative's anniversary on March 27, underscored Saudi Arabia's advancements and its pledge to international sustainability efforts. National initiatives have elevated protected land to 18.1% and marine areas to 6.49%, underscoring a commitment to conserving natural resources and biodiversity.

Alfadley pointed out that these environmental measures have enhanced living conditions, with a notable 63% reduction in dust storms from 2020 to 2024. He concluded by recognizing the joint efforts across multiple sectors and emphasized the necessity of ongoing community support to realize a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
