Saudi Arabia Leads Efforts in Groundbreaking Water-Security Innovations

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a global leader in innovative and sustainable water solutions, continuously investing in efforts to tackle water challenges. With a comprehensive vision that puts environmental sustainability first, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is sharing its extensive experience with the world to strengthen water resource sustainability and achieve water security both regionally and globally. According to Saudi Press Agency, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's announcement in 2023 of the creation of the Global Water Organization, headquartered in Riyadh, demonstrates Saudi Arabia's leadership in this sector and showcases its domestic efforts built on world-class experience to address water challenges and develop resource management policies. The signing of the organization's charter, with wide international participation, highlighted the organization's vital role in uniting the world toward a sustainable water future. Membership offers a strategic investment op portunity to influence global water policies, access funding for water projects, and share best practices worldwide. Saudi Arabia's launch of the Global Water Organization and hosting of the charter signing ceremony reflects its leading role in launching major initiatives and hosting prominent global events and conferences. They build on Saudi Arabia's recent achievements across the entire water supply chain, developing innovative technical solutions to water challenges, championing global environmental sustainability, and helping place water issues at the forefront of the international agenda, including by providing over $6 billion in funding to countries across four continents for water and sanitation projects. As part of its ambitious vision to advance the global water sector, Saudi Arabia shares its insights and expertise with the world while learning from international experiences. Saudi Arabia's hosting of the One Water Summit, co-chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, French President Emmanuel Macron, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the World Bank President Ajay Banga, demonstrates this commitment. Saudi Arabia was also selected to host the 2026 World Congress on Desalination and Water Re-Use Solutions, reflecting its status as the world's largest producer of desalinated water. The Kingdom will host the 2027 World Water Forum, the largest global water management event and premier platform for discussing water issues and international cooperation. Under Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom has adopted a comprehensive national strategy to improve water management and address key challenges, including limited non-renewable groundwater; high water demand across urban, industrial, and agricultural sectors; and scarce renewable resources. Through its strategy, Saudi Arabia aims to develop water resources using advanced technologies to ensure water security and conserve groundwater for future generations.
