Saudi Arabia Launches New Wildlife Monitoring Platform ‘Fitri’

Hanoi:The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Alfadley, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Wildlife (NCW), has introduced 'Fitri,' a national platform developed by the NCW.

According to Saudi Press Agency, This platform is a comprehensive digital system designed to gather, analyze, and connect data related to wildlife and natural habitats through geospatial technology. It aims to improve the efficiency of monitoring and protection efforts, while also aiding scientific research and decision-making in biodiversity conservation within Saudi Arabia.

'Fitri' includes three main components the Wildlife Rasid Explorer, the Wildlife Rasid app, and interactive dashboards. These elements work together to cover the entire data lifecycle, from collecting and documenting field data to managing, analyzing, and presenting spatial data and indicators.

The Wildlife Rasid Explorer serves as an interactive portal connected to a geospatial database, featuring eight layers of spatial data and 29 tools for searching, querying, analyzing, mapping, measuring, and planning field studies. The Wildlife Rasid app facilitates the on-site collection of biodiversity data and supports offline operations with over 10 services, such as interactive maps and field studies.

Additionally, 12 interactive dashboards display real-time environmental data and indicators through maps, images, and graphs. This assists users in monitoring environmental variables and making informed decisions regarding wildlife management and habitat conservation.

The platform is accessible to a diverse group of users, including researchers, specialists, and wildlife enthusiasts, and offers tools for monitoring wildlife species, documenting sightings, and integrating fieldwork with a centralized data and analysis system.
