Riyadh:The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has approved new regulatory controls for camel trading in Saudi Arabia. These measures aim to regulate the sale, purchase, leasing, and bartering of camels, in addition to protecting the rights of owners and traders. The initiative also seeks to support and promote the livestock sector and enhance animal welfare.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the controls outline specific requirements for contract validity, including detailed information about the camels and their prices. Sellers are required to disclose the health status of the camels and any related rights. Buyers, on the other hand, have obligations concerning payment, receipt, medical care, examinations, vaccinations, transportation, and registration.
The new regulations also include rules aimed at ensuring camel welfare during sales activities in markets, exhibitions, and auctions. These rules prohibit the provocation or disturbance of camels, mandate appropriate space around them, and ensure the cleanliness of display areas. Additionally, the regulations permit reports of animal abuse or cruelty to be submitted through the ministry's approved channels, with legal actions to follow as necessary.
These measures are part of the ministry's broader efforts to establish sound health practices and promote animal welfare. They contribute to the development of the livestock sector, enhancing its attractiveness and sustainability while aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
