Rome:Saudi Arabia, through its National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), concluded its participation in the 28th session of the Committee on Forestry (COFO28) organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
According to Saudi Press Agency, the session took place in Rome from September 28 to October 2, alongside the 10th World Forest Week under the theme "Forests for Food, Resilience, and Prosperity."
Saudi Arabia emphasized its role as the president of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission, sharing its experience in sustainable forest management, ecosystem restoration, and combating desertification. The country also engaged in discussions on the challenges faced by forests in arid and hyper-arid environments.
The NCVC delegation conducted bilateral meetings with representatives of various countries and international organizations. These meetings aimed to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in areas such as land and arid ecosystem restoration, forest and rangeland management, water harvesting, modern technologies, ecotourism, and capacity building.
Saudi Arabia's participation in these forums underscores its commitment to strengthening its presence in international forestry discussions and supporting global efforts to address land degradation and climate change. The Kingdom will chair the Near East Forestry and Range Commission from September 2025 to August 2027, facilitating the communication of the region's priorities and needs on international platforms.
