Saudi Arabia Engages in IAEA Board of Governors Meeting with Focus on Peaceful Nuclear Work

Vienna: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in the first meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held from November 17 to 21, 2025, in its capacity as a member of the board for the period 2025-2027.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia's participation highlights its role in promoting peaceful nuclear work. Through its membership on the board, the Kingdom aims to promote the peaceful use of energy, enhance access to nuclear technologies for developing countries, and support international efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The IAEA Board of Governors, which comprises 35 member states, is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the agency's policies and programs. It also reviews the IAEA's budget and operational plans and approves safety and security standards.

Representing Saudi Arabia on the board is Dr. Abdullah bin Khaled Toula, the Kingdom's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna.
