Geneva: The National Competitiveness Center of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) yesterday signed an agreement aimed at measuring e-commerce and digital trade. This collaboration marks a significant step in understanding and advancing the digital economy within Saudi Arabia.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Dr. Eman Al-Mutairi, the Vice Minister of Commerce and CEO of the National Competitiveness Center, emphasized that the Kingdom's progress under Vision 2030 is establishing its strategic position as a competitive economy across various sectors. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's broader efforts to diversify its economy by focusing on technological advancements and digitalization.
The agreement was formalized during Dr. Al-Mutairi's participation in the eighth session of the intergovernmental group of experts on e-commerce and the digital economy, organized by UNCTAD in Geneva, Switzerland. The session served as a platform to discuss and strategize the future of digital trade on a global scale.
The collaboration between Saudi Arabia and UNCTAD will involve the development of e-commerce and digital trade policies. This will be achieved through a comprehensive survey designed to assess the current state of these sectors. The subsequent phases will include data collection, analysis, and publication, which will ultimately lead to the creation of guidelines and recommendations rooted in global best practices.
